About The Wealth Post

Practical money analysis

This site started because of a $612 line item. A renewal notice for a car insurance policy arrived with a premium that had risen by a third, no accidents, no claims, no tickets. The explanation, once someone was willing to give it, was that the commute mileage on the policy had been wrong since the day it was written, and had never been checked because nobody asks.

That is the pattern that runs through nearly every expensive mistake in household finance. Not fraud, not stupidity. A document nobody read, a default nobody questioned, a number that was true once and is not true now. The Wealth Post exists to read those documents.

What we publish

52 guides across 5 sections: Insurance, Mortgages, Loans, Credit Cards and Debt & Credit. Each one is built around figures you can check rather than advice you have to trust, and each carries a table, a set of trade-offs, and a list of what it assumed.

Alongside them are 8 calculators. The same arithmetic the guides quote, opened up so you can put your own numbers in. They run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is transmitted, stored, or attached to you.

How the guides are written

  • The arithmetic is shown. When a guide says an audit saved $412, the before-and-after line items are on the page. You can disagree with the assumptions, because you can see them.
  • Dates are honest. Original publication dates stay as they were. A 2023 guide says 2023, with a separate updated date when it has genuinely been revised.
  • The unflattering answer gets published. Several guides here conclude that the product being discussed is not worth buying, that the cheaper option is the right one, or that the reader should walk away.

Who writes it

Alex Hales, editor. Alex has spent the better part of a decade reading loan estimates, insurance declarations pages and cardholder agreements line by line, usually because a number in one of them was wrong. The Wealth Post is where that habit gets written down.

One person writes and reviews everything here. That is a real limitation and it is worth saying. The safeguard is procedural: nothing publishes until its numbers reproduce, and corrections are published rather than quietly patched.

How it pays for itself

Advertising, and affiliate commissions on some products. No sponsored posts, no paid reviews, no advertiser sight of a guide before it publishes.

What this is not

It is not advice. We do not know your income, your dependants, your state, your health, or your tolerance for risk, and every one of those changes the answer. Everything here is an illustration built on stated assumptions.

Use it to arrive at your next conversation with a lender, agent or adviser knowing which questions to ask and which answers should worry you.

Corrections and contact

If a figure here is wrong, we want to know. Write to alexhales2209405@gmail.com and it gets fixed with a note saying what changed. The contact page has the rest.

Get in touch

Corrections take priority over everything else in the inbox. If a figure on this site is wrong, tell us and it gets fixed with a note saying what changed.
